Applications in Orkut

Today few things rolled out of Orkut. I am sure i am one of the few users who have come across this first. I was signed in orkut and it was normal and when i visited my “home” past 12, unmistakably there was some difference. Applications have entered orkut. :)

Below the “Today’s Fortune” in home… There was more information about the new “Add applications feature”, wherein you can add applications to your profiles…. These applications will be visible to your profile visitors. Initially (the time i write this) there were 15 applications in the warehouse and am sure there are more in line…

Below is a screenshot of the applications page. They come with an “Add application” button and once you click that, it takes you to the application customization page and finally gets added to your profile page.

Seems all the applications are part of opensocial and there is a link at the end of the applications page where users can submit their own opensocial applications and i can see the number of applications grow enormously in coming days.

There was no official word from orkut on this, but they do have highlights on various opensocial applications in their blog. For past few months lots of new additions in orkut and its nice to see this applications and Orkut is preparing to face the bigger participants who already have applications as part of their social networking.

See for yourself - Emote app in the profile of one of my friend. Its cool. There are lots to do.

Below are the list of applications available
